Applying to Australia

Everything hinges on the Genuine Student assessment. Your documents have to tell one consistent story about why this course, in this country, now.

  1. Step 1

    Research and shortlist

    Choose programs and institutions against your academic record and the career outcome you want, not against rankings alone.

  2. Step 2

    Test preparation

    IELTS, PTE Academic or TOEFL. Typically 6.0–6.5 overall for undergraduate, 6.5–7.0 for postgraduate, with band minimums that vary by provider.

  3. Step 3

    Application and documents

    Academic transcripts, SOP, passport and test scores go to the universities. Apply to more than one so you have a genuine choice of offer.

  4. Step 4

    Offer and GS assessment

    Pass the Genuine Student check, submit proof of funds, accept your offer and pay the deposit that releases your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

  5. Step 5

    Visa application

    Buy Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and lodge the Subclass 500 Student Visa online. Living-cost evidence is AUD 29,710 for a single student.

  6. Step 6

    Pre-departure

    Medical examination, biometrics, flights and accommodation. Open your Australian bank account from Nepal while you wait.

  7. Step 7

    Arrival and settling in

    University orientation, activate your bank account in a branch, get a Tax File Number if you plan to work, and start classes.
